Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the difference between Standard and Datacenter?
The choice between Standard and Datacenter depends on server resources, virtualisation plans and licence rights. We assess these requirements before recommending an edition.
Do you need additional licenses?
In addition to the server licence, you may require CAL for users or devices.
Can I use Windows Server 2022 for terminal access?
Yes, RDS is supported, but separate RDS CALs are needed.
Is the standard suitable for virtualization?
Yes, the edition supports the launch of up to 2 virtual machines.
Where to buy a Windows Server 2022 Standard license in Kazakhstan?

Processor.
The performance of the processor depends not only on the clock frequency, but also on the number of its cores and the size of the cache. Below are the processor requirements for this product.
Minimum requirements
64-bit processor with a clock speed of 1.4 GHz
Compatible with instruction set for x64 architecture
Support for NX and DEP technologies
Support for CMPXCHG16b, LAHF/SAHF and PrefetchW
Support for second-level address conversion (EPT or NPT)
Coreinfo, part of Windows Sysinternals, is a tool you can use to check which of these features your CPU has.
RAM
Below are the approximate RAM requirements for this product.
Minimum requirements
512 MB (2 GB for the "Desktop Server" installation option)
ECC (Error Correction Code) type or similar technology for deployment to physical nodes
Important!
If you create a virtual machine with minimal supported hardware settings (1 CPU core and 512MB RAM) and then try to install this release on the virtual machine, the installation will end in error.
To prevent this from happening, follow one of the steps below.
Allocate the virtual machine on which you plan to install this release, more than 800 MB of RAM. Upon completion of the installation, you can reduce this volume to 512 MB depending on the actual configuration of the server. If you changed the boot image to perform the installation with additional languages and updates, then you may need to allocate more than 800 MB of RAM to perform the installation.
Interrupt the process of downloading this release on the virtual machine by pressing the key combination SHIFT + F10. Use the diskpart.exe program in the command line that opens to create and format a partition for installation. Run wpeutil createpagefile /path=C:\pf.sys (assume that the partition you created to install is C:\). Then close the command line window and continue the installation.
Requirements for memory controller and disk space
Computers running Windows Server must have a storage adapter that meets the PCI Express architecture specification. Permanent storage devices on servers classified as hard drives should not be PATA devices. In Windows Server, ATA, PATA, IDE, and EIDE devices cannot be used as boot disks, paging disks, or data disks.
Below are the approximate minimum disk space requirements for the system partition.
Minimum requirements of 32 GB
Note
Please note that 32 GB is the absolute minimum for a successful installation. This minimum should allow you to install Windows Server 2022 using the option of installing the main server components with the role of a web service server (IIS). The server in the installation mode of the main server components is about 4 GB smaller than the same server with the option of installing the desktop capability.
In any of the following cases, additional space will be required for the system partition.
The system is installed over the network.
Computers with more than 16GB of RAM will require more disk space for paging, hibernation, and dump files.
Network adapter requirements
The network adapters used in this release should include the following components.
Minimum requirements
Ethernet adapter with a bandwidth of at least 1 gigabits per second.
Compatible with the PCI Express architecture specification.
A network adapter with support for network debugging (KDNet) can be useful, but it is not included in the minimum requirements.
A network adapter with support for a pre-boot runtime environment (PXE) may come in handy, but is not included in the minimum requirements.
Other requirements
Computers running this release must also contain the following components.
DVD drive (if the operating system is installed from a DVD)
The following elements are required only for certain components:
UEFI system based on version 2.3.1c and firmware with support for secure boot.
Trusted platform module
Graphics device and Super VGA monitor (1024 x 768) or higher resolution.
Microsoft keyboard and mouse (or other compatible pointing device).
Internet access (extra charge may be required)
Note
Certain components, such as BitLocker disk encryption, require a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip. If a computer uses a trusted platform module, it must meet the following requirements:
A hardware trusted platform module must have the specifications of a trusted platform module version 2.0.
A trusted platform module implementing version 2.0 must have an EK certificate, which is either pre-prepared for a trusted platform module by the hardware provider, or can be obtained by the device at first boot.
A trusted platform module implementing version 2.0 must come bundled with SHA-256 PCR memory banks and implement a PCR of 0 to 23 for the SHA-256 algorithm. It is allowed to supply trusted platform modules with one PCR bank, which can be used to calculate the SHA-1 and SHA-256 algorithms.
A UEFI option requesting a trusted platform module to be turned off is not a requirement.
